Getting my Apartment Ready for the Winter Darkness | Philips Lighting Collab

welcome to a little corner of our apartment – isn’t it cute !?
as you might have gathered by now, we scandinavians are hardcore light addicts. the long months of winter (all 9 of them) makes our need for cosy and efficient artificial lighting quite serious. my guess is that the normal scandinavian room has an average of 6 lamps in it.
yep, to say that we love lamps is an understatement.

so how lucky is this particular scandi girl – our berlin apartment just went through a major lighting upgrade. we are now completely decked, with the new Philips Lighting EyeComfort LED light bulbs in every room. or as i like to call them : mood bulbs.

we have been trying out both the warmer Edison clear bulb, and the matte bulbs with 2 colour settings (warm or cool).
this is what the matte ones look like when turned on to the cool setting:

how do you choose setting ? it’s quite clever – you turn the light on and it’s warm. if you want the cooler light, you just turn it off and on again. pronto !

i’ve had cool-light lamps before, because it helps keep my energy up on dark winter days. but the problem is that i can never use the same lamps at night, since we in the evenings want warm and cosy light.

i think this is something that we usually never think about, but it’s in fact so important, the light we surround ourselves in. it’s something most of us take for granted, something that is just there. or not there. the Philips Lighting EyeComfort LEDs are specifically designed to be comfortable for the eyes, and to eliminate unwanted glare and reflections.

the wrong lighting can actually be the reason for headaches and bad concentration. as i work from my home office every day, and as i care a lot about mine and david’s overall health, i’ve completely overlooked this in the past. so now, i’ve taken this opportunity to up my light game. let’s not forget those eyeballs of ours in a world where the main health focus seem to be on fitness. to stay healthy and happy we have to see the big picture !
after a few hours of work, especially in the wintertime, my eyes and head would normally start to feel tired, even if i exercise and eat healthy. it never crossed my mind that the light can have such an impact on my focus.

a few snaps of our office setup:

the clear bulbs works so well with my hanging cord lamps, don’t you think ?

so ! have you ever thought of what to look for when shopping for a new light bulb ? i sure didn’t. working with Philips Lighting on this campaign has taught me that it’s not just the right socket size we should take into consideration, but things such as the flicker, color and glare are all important factors that make up a great light bulb. it all helps to prevents rapid fatigue and increases motivation and concentration. and who doesn’t need that, am i right ?

i took these photos on a dark, rainy morning – so that you can see the clear difference between no light, warm light, and cool light :

with this new line Philips Lighting has developed something as cool as an industry standard to be able to measure eye comfort, which is the first of it’s kind ! it’s like a parameter for visual comfort – basically how good your eyes are feeling.

there is a whole range to choose from, all high quality LED bulbs with a fresh day-light like sheen to avoid stress. i love how no-nonsense this is, and that it’s so easy and convenient to change between the light settings. bring on dark grey berlin winter months – i’m ready !
