3 THINGS : movies for those with wanderlust

comments 26

are you a mover, a nomad ? do you love travelling and seeing new places and walking new streets ?
then this post is for you.

did you know me and david are huge movie nerds ? we love watching films, and we usually see about 5-10 films each weeks. it’s our way to unwind, learn new things, get inspired.

so why not share some of our favourites with you ?
here are three films we absolutely love on the theme of walking / travelling / moving.
both about how vulnerable we are when exposed to nature, and about the possibility of healing by moving.

the way back (2010)
a group of prisoners escape a siberian gulag and walks forever to get to safety in india. don’t let that fool you though, this film is both thrilling and beautiful. it has really stayed with me for some reason that i can’t quite put my finger on.

wild (2014)
reese witherspoon shows just how forceful and honest of an actress she can be. this is an incredibly important film in my view, so strong in its simplicity. witherspoon plays an addict who decides to walk the pacific crest trail. based on cheryl strayed’s memoirs.

the way (2010)
the most delightful and heart-warming film, about a father (martin sheen) walking the el camino de santiago in remembrance of his son. this is one of those films that leaves you completely happy to be alive, with just a little touch of sadness at the same time. everyone should watch this movie !

do you have any wanderlust movie tips for me and david ?
let me know in the comments.

  1. Not sure if you’ve ever been to Iceland m, but if you have, you’ll probably love The Secret Life of Walter Mitty just as much as I did. And if you haven’t, you should still check it out – beautiful landscapes and it gives you a special feeling of freedom, hard to describe. Definitely recommended! Btw I’ll be moving to Berlin in just a month, so maybe see you there at some vegan place this winter, who knows!

oh cool ! keep an eye out for me and come up and say hi if you see me haha

  2. oh jenny what a lovely idea to share wanderlust-films!! now i am totally curious and want to watch all of them! ahh, i’m getting fernweh (a german word for the urge to travel and see new places; like home-sickness but the other way around)! i think you should add ‘into the wild’ to that list. in case you’ve never seen it, you totally should! its one of my favourites and most beautiful films ever. love, lea

oh cool ! i’m gonna remember that word ^^
yeah i didn’t like into the wild the first time i saw it (i actually only saw half an hour and then turned it off :P) but i should give it another chance.
lots of love back // j

      • Into the wild is such an amazing film and really has a strong message about society and having people you love share life’s experiences with you. It’s one of my all time favorites!

  3. I’ve been meaning to see “Wild”. By the way, the film “the way back” has a link to info about “Wild” and not about itself.

  4. Maybe you have already seen it, but “into the wild” definitely have a spot on this list. My all time favorite movie <3

  9. Movies where people discover and learn about themselves through travel are my all time favorites. I’ve been meaning to check out your blog for quite some time but I just never clicked the link. This post was genius! I’m gonna start reading your blog:) Thank you so much for your content. Whenever I see that you’ve uploaded a new video I always watch them. They, along with these posts, are inspired!

  11. This is more like a documentary but I love it. It’s called “180º South”, you should watch it if you haven’t already!

  12. I would now add to that ‘The Revenant’, because it goes through the wild and endless winter landscapes of new discovered North America, and the photography is incredible !

  13. Dear Jenny,

I also love the movie “America Recycled”
it’s a real good one! about two brothers cycling across communities in America.

    love your blog so much

  14. Into the Wild, Tracks, Life of Pi, This must be the place
    Hope you’ll like it :)

  15. The Motorcycle Diaries, Eat Pray Love, and to read (book) Walking Home by Sonja Choquette. BTW, I love your videos! You are so inspiring! Thank you, and please keep up the great work! :-)

  16. Emma-Louise Irving

Hiya, I’ve come to this blog post quite late.
Thankyou for the suggestions I shall certainly check them out :)
Have you and David watched a film called Into The Wild (2007) ?
I absolutely adore that film, and if you haven’t watched it yet I’d definitely recommend it!

I hope you have a fantastic week,
    Lots of love

  17. I love that our perspectives are the same! I watched ‘Wild’ and ‘Into the Wild’ back to back on a flight from Denmark to Boston, and I ADORED Wild and felt moved and inspired afterwards, whereas Into the Wild was so awful and strange and sad that I had to turn it off after 15-20 minutes. So funny to find that perspective somewhere else!

Love love love your stuff Jenny (+ David). You guys are a great team and watching your videos leaves me inspired and super happy. Please keep creating!!

    All my love,

  18. I love Wild this film reminded me how I love to discover new places and explore the world because this is the best way to find yourself. That’s why I usually travel alone. That freedom of being lost is so exciting!
